abandoned museum of abandon:

 games ideas best left behind

Made during Museum of Screens' very special BITSY FEST (bitsy jam #77) in October 2023. Happy 7th birthday, Bitsy!

The theme for the jam was, surprise: "museum". I followed this theme and made a mausoleum in Bitsy that's been masking as a museum to memorialize a total of 10 game and simulator ideas from 2020-2022 that I have since abandoned - something I know devs of all stripes and experience can relate to. I love that Museum of Screens is doing stuff like this in their work to preserve browser game history at large.

Hallowe'en is coming up soon so expect some chills.

CONTROLS:

move - arrow keys or wsad

interact - bump into accessible red sprites and see what happens

 - bump into this sprite in-game to restart the Bitsy

- bump into this sprite in-game to view info on each display

CREDITS:

  • lyrics from Motorcycle Emptiness, all respect to Wire/Edwards
  • Animal Catacombs theme was composed and mixed in Ableton Live 11 by me
  • thanks to all the other art referenced in text in Abandoned Museum of Abandon. y'all deserve better than these borderline psycho eureka "let's gamify it" moments!

I remember (not going to see) Oasis at Knebworth. Yeah, take that guy's stuff.

This is such an interesting way of not quite abandoning abandoned ideas. RIP.

(I kind of want to play Fairy Bingo Hall Simulator though.)

LMAO you're too kind! Maybe my efforts were in vain but I kind of wanted to make it just to play it SO BAD! Consider FBHS not quite abandoned then hahaha.

I definitely have a museum of game ideas inside my notes app. I’ll never visit it. This is cool!

Thank you for this wonderfully weird and idiosyncratic experience.

Loved the music and overall emotional vibes of this piece. Really cool idea to make an exhibition of your past unfinished projects, I'll definitely gonna steal it at some point :)

Thanks, please steal away!! Means a lot coming from you.

I really enjoyed this! Love the colours and the vibe, and I liked reading about each (honestly pretty good) idea. There’s something poetic about turning these abandoned ideas into something new.

Cool music, really sets the vibe.

In some small way, abandoned ideas live on through new ideas, right? This was a cool idea.

Great game! The art is visually stunning, and I love the abandoned game ideas!
